Temples

Linda,

Very interesting to learn more. I am not Mormon by religion, but I am always willing to learn more about religions different than mine. Can anyone attend? View the temple? Sorry if I sound naive, not intended to be.

No worries, Becca. Anyone can go to a temple before it is dedicated. There are new temples going up all over, so lots of non-LDS people have been to them. Once dedicated then only those members who live a stricter code of moral behavior are allowed inside. There are many LDS (Mormon) people who aren't willing to live the higher standards, and they can't go into the temple after dedication either. It is a way of keeping temples more sacred than our chapels which anyone, LDS or not, can go to anytime.

What are the codes that determine who can go to the chapel and who can go to the temple after it is dedicated?

The moral code includes paying 10% tithing, no tobacco, coffee, black or green tea, or any alcoholic drinks, and no sex outside of marriage. There are a few other things like being honest. All things that will ultimately help us feel better and be happier anyway.

Can I ask about the coffee and tea? Why can't you drink it? You drink other things, like juice, milk, water, soda.

Not drinking coffee or tea is just a part of a health code that we call "The Word Of Wisdom". Both coffee and tea have substances in them which harm the body. If you have any other questions about our faith you can go to www.mormon.org and click on "ask a question". You can choose live chat and you won't even have to give them your name if you don't want. Or, I can try to answer as many questions as you have. I'll do my best. Cheers to you.
